"chosen to receive" or "allowed to receive"? after about ten minutes, she said.“Oh,that’s why I can’t find it in our system. You should have received a phone call a few days ago that your layaway was paid off by a secret Santa.”I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! This kind of story only happens in the news. Why was my family ________ to receive such a blessing? This test question continues the cloze test I asked about a moment ago. May I ask why should I say "chosen to receive" rather than "allowed to receive"? Thank you.

"Chosen to receive" means that the family was selected. "Allowed to receive" means that the family had permission, as if they satisfied a criteria or passed a test in order to receive a gift.
