What is " cross-fertilisation" ? I just read a news from economist : "The congruity between the Brexit and Trump campaigns is not surprising, for Britain and American politics often march in lockstep, with plenty of cross-fertilisation." What does "cross-fertilisation" mean here ? Since I know it's a word for biology... Thanks a lot !

It is a term from biology. In this context, the writer means that political actions in America often lead to similar political actions in Great Britain; and that political actions in Great Britain often lead to similar political actions in the United States.

It refers to interaction between the two cultures. Usually in biology we think of it as mutually beneficial, although that is not apparent in this case.
