"bei" and "an" I don't know the difference between these two.

I've only started learning German, but I believe that "bei" is used to mean like, "at" somewhere, like, "Er war bei der Arbeit" - "He was at work", whereas "an" is more like "by", like, "Seite an Seite" - "Side by side". Hope that helps.
