Two questions about Date and season 1.(the)summer (the)winter.etc.When is 'the' necessary if we are not talking about a paticular summer or winter. e.g.Children like icecreams in (the) summer. 2.Two ways to say 2012? twenty twelve , two thounsand and twelve (Heard this one in some documentary)

1. If you're not talking about a particular summer or winter, the 'the' is optional. 2. Yes. We have two ways of saying years, especially those from 2010 onwards.
