I would probably use the word "carry" or "deliver," not "send." "Send" means something you do. You "send" a letter to your friend. The postal service (or postal service robot) "carries" the mail, and then "delivers" it to your friend. Actually your sentence would be perfectly correct if the robot took the package to the post office.
