what does“jump to the rescue” mean?
Scientists jumped to the rescue with some distinctly shaky evidence to the effect that insects would eat usup if birds failed to control them.
Are you sure it's jumped to the rescue? I feel that jumped to the conclusion would fit better. Taking "jumped to the rescue" in this context, I'd take it to mean the scientists created a reason that could be supported with the evidence.
