On Saturday morning some of my old schoolmates phoned. I(1)…. (have) a small party the same evening. this is text from a test where i have to put the verb in brackets in correct form. So, will i had a small party be correct in this case?

The only thing wrong with 'i had a small party' is the lack of capital 'I'. Remember that it is never acceptable to use a small 'i' for the first person pronoun. As for the verb form, the past simple 'had' is fine if you have no further context.
