It depends! Are you looking for conversational English or literature? Sometimes the best way to study a language is to read books in said language. I learned picked up on English because I liked to read when I was a kid (still do, actually) but apart from reading, I also listen to English songs to polish my pronounciation and watch movies in English. Find out which method suits you best, but I think those three are the most efficient. And yes, speak! Speaking is a must, do not be scared or embarrassed. You'll familiarize yourself with the language. Hope this helps :)

You have to speak the language you are learning. This is a must. Most people don't try to learn a language to be able to read it and listen to it only, but primarily to speak it. Even though it is uncomfortable, and we are scared to mess up. Tonight my Grandma found out that I am learning Spanish, so she started to speak Spanish only to me. It was uncomfortable, but I learned so much from her. So speak! :)

Go to a country where they speak the language. I would also recommend these sites. Yabla.com https://www.duolingo.com
