There are a lot of expressions that you can use to express feelings like you yourself mentioned above: It's a pity to hear that she dropped out of college It's so crazy what is happening politically Oh what a shame that she started drinking again. I'm so angry/upset that my party lost the election I'm so sorry to hear that you were in a car accident yesterday That's terrible news that you broke your arm when you fell on the ice.

It's a shame they had to leave the party so early; I miss talking to them! Isn't it crazy/nuts/insane that Diane has five kids? Where does she find the time? Did you hear Tom passed away? How awful! He had been cancer free for three years. I'm really ticked off at Susan- she took my parking spot AGAIN! Ever since the break up, Dave has been so weird/awkward around me.
