Hi, guys! How to change this sentence into Reported Speech? "My dad was my role model when I was little" Which one is correct? He said his dad had been his role model when he was little. He said his dad had been his role model when he had been little.

The first one. When we talk about our childhoods, we always or almost always use the simple past tense. “When I was little” “When I was six” “When I was in college” etc.
