Questions about "seek to reconcile conflicting testimony as to the exact words of Jesus" Scholars today are endlessly checking the legendary accounts of the victories of Genghis Khan or seeking to reconcile conflicting testimony as to the exact words of Jesus. I suppose that the second half of the above sentence could mean scholars today are endlessly looking for the testimony used to reconcile conflicts in the Bible. Do you think so? How do you understand the sentence? Thank you.

No, they themselves (the scholars) are looking to reconcile, that is, sort out, conflicting accounts about what Jesus actually said. It isn't the testimony that does the reconciling, but the scholars.
