It was created by King Sejong the Great, who felt compassion for poor people who could not read the Chinese character.
It was called “Hunminjeongeum” that means “a desirable sound to enlighten the people”.
It has many advantages.
First, there are 24 letters in Hangul. It is fewer than Chinese character and Japanese Therefore, it is easy to learn.
Second, Hangul is a scientific language. Because It was made by analyzing the structure of human mouth. So, any language can be written in Hangul.
Because of these advantages, Hunminjeongeum made it to the UNESCO List in 1997 and several ethnic minorities that don’t have their own letters can write their language in letter by using Hangul.
So, Koreans are proud of it.
To celebrate the proclamation of Hangeul, Koreans hang the Korea flag on October ninth and host many events related to Hangeul.
