What does "vain" mean? pride?
I am reading the novel called "Far from the Madding Crowd", in the first chapter it describes about a lady, and Gabriel thought "She must be rather vain, she doesn't need to look in that mirror at all!" and again, after the lady's cart moved away, Gabriel expressed "her great fault is that she's vain." to respond to the gatekeeper.
Here what means "vain"? does it mean the lady is pride?
