Are fields and farms same? "The story takes place in the fields and farms of the quiet English countryside, when harvests were gathered by hand, when carts were pulled by horses, and when people’s lives followed the pattern of the changing seasons.'' Are fields and farms same? both mean land for growing harvest?

I agree with Nick. I would also say that when field is on a farm, it is usually identified by the crop. So people typically speak of a field of wheat, a field of corn, or field of cotton. It's even more common to say a wheat field, a corn field, a cotton field.

Fields can be wild vegetation. Farms are are designed for the purpose of growing food. However a field can sometimes be a farm, a field can be either one but a farm cannot be a parcel of wild land
