What is the difference between these two sentences? Is the first sentence mean that they used to write a book every month? 1. They would write a book every month. 2. They wrote a book every month. Thanks.

In a certan context, yes, this sentence could be translated as a second one. But the difference between them is that: the first sentece concentrates on the situation that happened to be in past but now it's not the same, the second sentence tells just about some facts in the past - it doesn't matter if this situation is the same or different in present.
