Probably obvioius but just in case. The differences are more than accent. Grammar varies too. There are multiple British, English and American accents. As with most places people vary widely in how pronounced/strong their accents are.

It may surprise you but there are parts of America where they sound closer to British than many people imagine possible. American English accents often have an older accent that reflects where the first settlers arrived from. And for the rest of your question it depends on how stereotypical you want to become. A general very broad difference can be more noticeable between the letter "R" pronunciations.

There are many differences between British and American English. It is hard to describe in writing. Easier to explain verbally.
