Gas & Petroleum "Gas" and " Petroleum" are the same meaning?

Not quite. In the United States we say "Gas" and in the UK I believe they say "Petrol" in most places. Both Gas and Petrol refer to what you would put into your car to fuel it. Petroleum is crude oil or in other words the raw product. Gas and Petrol are made from Petroleum or Crude oil. Hope this helps.

Gas sometimes is just the name of a state of matter, solid, liquid, gas. Not all vehicles run on petrol. So, I'd guess Americans also call diesel "gas". . I wonder whether they talk of putting some gas in the tank of electric vehicles. :)
