Japanese Reading Practice Recommendation I would like to improve both my Japanese reading and vocabulary. Does anybody have any recommendations for Japanese reading that is level appropriate? I'm probably at a lower intermediate level. I personally am not really into manga but if the story was good I would be open to it. For example, I like sports so I thought about trying to read "Slam Dunk" since it was popular and the storyline was centered around basketball. However, I'm not sure since my level is low if I would just become frustrated with not understanding. Also, since I live in Japan I probably have more access to readings rather than just searching the internet to try and find a copy of something. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

If you are in Japan, why don't you try a local library, especially kids' one (児童図書館 or 児童図書室)? They should have a collection of picture books to juvenile books.

I recommend ざんねんないきもの, a national bestseller, which has "FURIGANA", a guideline "HIRAGANA" on the side of each KANJI to let you know how it reads. https://www.1242.com/lf/asset/uploads/2017/05/f71a6c96fbe29746b868af2ea0f2b666.jpg https://www.takahashishoten.co.jp/zannen/#book https://www.instagram.com/p/BjowFHRHI8K/?taken-by=takahashishoten_official

There are some manga's written both in English and Japanese, 4コマ漫画 is easy and not frustrating even you don't understand some words and phrases, and still funny. It may be good to read some good books, but it is depends on how much you can understand. It is absolutely a good tool when you can understand mostly of the contents of that book.
