Minefields I don't really get this word. I watched a film and the conversation went like this: A: I was going to tell you about my solo but I think we should put it in the banlist then I got anxious B : Ok this is stupid A: I suddenly don't know what to say to you B: There are minefields What does minefields mean here ? Thank you !

It is a term borrowed from army or war terminology, and refers to an area planted with land mines, which explode when they are stepped on. In this instance, the speaker is referring to an uncomfortable situation which could result in the person he/she is speaking to 'exploding', i.e. losing their temper or getting very angry. The situation is therefore referred to as a minefield, in that a sensitive subject is being raised.
