has contributed artists Does "has contributed artists" in the fourth line of the provided paragraph mean "has resulted in artists" and "has encouraged artists"? Context: Artists who sought meaningful roles in society before the Second World War have found in the past fifteen years that war art has an important role to play in the public’s understanding of conflict. The mass movement of peoples in the aftermath of wars has contributed artists who have experienced war from the inside, but as civilians not soldiers, and who can reflect on these experiences from the relative security of their new homes.

"has resulted in artists" yes. "has encouraged artists" no. . The point is that of all the people involved in war, some were or became artists. Hence more artists who had experience of war. The point is not that war encouraged artists. This might be true, but not the point, here.

The mass movement of people (refugees) after the war 'gave' us artists who have experienced war from the inside.
