The grammar of your sentence is wrong you have used the past tense when it needs to be in the present tense. Do you think that young people should choose a career that pleases their parents?

They should select a career that satisfies their need so that they would live happily while their parents take pride in their children's careers.

The first consideration is the person who will actually study it, that is who necessarily needs to like the career picked. If your parents are the people who will take care of the financial matters and they don't like your pick, you might have some convincing to do, but that's another thing altogether.
