Textbooks for negotiation in western countries When I started using English, it was technical English. Now I have to do things other than that, like I have to negotiate with business partner's executives in the US and France. I have never learned their way to negotiate or discuss, so I feel quite vulnerable. Could you recommend me some textbooks or web sites to help basic learners like me? Written in plain English is preferable. Right now sometimes I speak to them, but mostly write them.  Thanks for your help!

Negotiation is one of the most advanced skill-sets related to business English. More challenging negotiations will require you to read your counterpart's emotions and see past what they are saying directly. Negotiations can also involve a lot of pressure on all participants and the potential for hostility. I can't tell you a specific book to read, but Harvard has a Program On Negotiation which recently published a reading list on their blog: https://www.pon.harvard.edu/daily/negotiation-training-daily/negotiation-books-a-negotiation-reading-list/

You could also have a look on Coursera.org. There are quite a few courses on negotiation and business related skills. There are some with Japanese subtitles too, like this one: https://www.coursera.org/learn/communication-strategies-virtual-age

Thank you for your comment. I'm lost in negotiation and I don't know how many parts there are in negotiation. I am such a beginner. So I cannot tell where I am now...

Which part of the negotiation has already progressed and you lost? My two cents. Do it your way. There is always a home advantage. Make them adapt to you. Which part of the negotiation has already progressed and you lost? .
