"How do you say..." in Japanese I've gotten the consensus online that to ask what something is in Japanese, you can either say one of the following:

これは日本語で何ですか?

これは日本語で何と言いますか?

But, couldn't you also say, formally:

これは日本語でどう言いますか?

Or informally:

これは日本語でどう言うの?

All what you wrote is correct. 1)これは日本語でなんですか?  2)これは日本語でなんと言いますか?  1)&2) What do you call it in Japanese? or What do you say it in Japanese both. Informal :日本語でなんて言うの? これは日本語でどう言いますか? How can I express (this sentence) in Japanese? Informal: 日本語でどう言うの? 日本語でどう言えばいいの? どう is rather used for a sentence, not a word.
