this is a dialogue from my listening material, and I also heard of one way to answer,like:go ahead
so I am wondering what's the difference between them, and if these two persons are peers, friends, what‘s the better answers to say?

Hi Mayi,
'Go ahead' and 'Ask away' mean much the same thing here. 'Go ahead' is a very general expression and 'ask away' obviously related specifically to asking questions, but both expressions serve the same function in this case. Both are informal, especially 'ask away'. So the use of these expressions indicates an informal relationship.
