BrE speakers in the UK often just say 'pickup' for what AmE speakers call 'pick up truck'. We have fewer of these vehicles, so we don't tend to make a distinction between 'utility trucks' and 'pick up trucks'. If it's a smaller, more general-use vehicle, we'd probably call it a 4 x 4. We generally think of 'ute' (as in 'utility') as an Aussie term.
