Does it look correct? Maria was bored at home, SO she decided to go out. She put on a jacket, FOR it was cold outside. Maria called one of her friends, BUT she couldn’t reach him. She could either go shopping OR hang out in a mall. However, she doesn't like shopping, NOR did she have money. She went to the library, FOR she loves to read. Maria couldn't find the book that she wants at the library, YET she could read some other books AND became happy.

I would say BECAUSE instead of FOR. It sounds much more normal. I would change the last sentence: Maria couldn't find the book that she wantED at the library, BUT she WAS ABLE TO read some other books AND WAS happy.
