The first time through, don't try and understand or analyse each sentence individually as you read it. Sometimes information you get in later sentences helps you understand the earlier ones. So the first time through, read a few paragraphs first to get a general idea and then go back and reread it again. Each time will fill in the gap a little more. English is my first language and I had to follow this process for some difficult academic texts. Good luck :)

You will get there with practice so don't worry. One way to improve this is to read book reviews. Meanwhile try speaking the language with people also (rather than reading only): Interact with them and ask as many questions as you can. All the best

Can you give some examples? Sentences you have had some difficulty with along with their context, i.e. the whole paragraph the sentence is in.

Can I make a couple of suggestions that Chinese teachers seem to regularly fail to teach their students? 1: Learn to punctuate correctly. You need one space after .,?! Look at the difference between what all (educated) westerners write, and what you wrote. 2: Avoid 'wanna'. 30-something Americans think it's OK. Most people don't. Pronounce it that way, but don't write it.
