What is the difference between ここ and これ? They both translate as meaning "this".

Hi! ここ and これ are both pronouns meaning "this". これ is used to signify things in general. ここ is used to indicate a place and means "This place". It's more desirable to use than just using a literal translation of "this place" like このところ。 Example: ここは工学部ですか? --> Is this "place" the faculty of Engineering?
