London Labour and the London Poor: the articles
Recently I am reading this great book by Henry Mayhew. Could you please explain me the rules - I know why we use here THE with "poor" but I do not know the rule for "labour" in this context.
Thanks in advance!
The word 'the' in English is a bit tough. Generally, here we do not need a 'the' because labour is an abstract idea, like love. 'The' is specific, like 'the poor'.
