Rushing noise In Sewell's "Black Beauty" Beauty says: "I listened, and heard a soft rushing sort of noise and a low crackling and snapping." He was talking about fire that was about to burn the stable. But I do not understand the phrase "rushing sound". Could you please clarify it?

Imagine you saw and animal in a rush. This means that it wants to get somewhere really fast. Thats the sound she is talking about. Its the sound something makes when it wants to get somewhere really quickly. Imagine an animal running fast through a forest, or a stream flowing really fast over rocks, or the wooooosh a train makes when its going past a platform.... really fast. Got it?
