Why can't we say: ''somebody were happy'' Some can be used with singular and plural nouns.

'Somebody' is a singular noun.

Just to clarify, 'somebody were happy' is ok if you are using subjunctive tense, but otherwise as mentioned in your other post, in other tenses it requires the singular verb. Something you need to accept. Language preceded grammar rules.
