Is my observation correct ... Thank you (we use it when we have personal pronouns after the verb) Thanks John(we use it when a noun comes after the verb thank)

'Thanks' is more informal than 'thank you'. Examples: Thank you, John. Thanks, John. Thank you for your time. Thanks for your time.
