2/ I want to take a few days off work because I'm planning on going on a road trip next week

they're fine but #1 could be easier if you say "I would like to take Thursday and Friday off"

Number 1 is not quite right. You should say, I would like to take Thursday and Friday off.
Also, I think it would read better if you said I'm planning to go on a road trip next week.
