If he had had the directions, he would have arrived on time. 1. If he had the directions, he would have arrived on time. 2. If he had the directions, he will have arrived on time. Hi. Can 1 and 2 mean the same thing (i.e. Either he had the directions or he didn't. If he did, I deduce that he arrived on time. If he didn't, I deduce that he didn't arrive on time.)? Thank you.

Your question has a extra had, so I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. IF (conditional) he had had (past perfect) the directions (but he didn’t because this is already past) he would have been (present perfect) on time. (but he wasn’t) He didn’t have the directions therefore he was not on time. I hope this is clear.

No, the first one is correct but the second isn't. You can't say "he will have arrived on time". You can say "he will arrive on time".
