go down
Hello,
If anyone helps me with the expression below, it would be very much appreciated.
"If anybody goes down for this, it is you. You were driving."
What does it meany by 'goes down' here?
Thank you!
It's an informal expression meaning 'be sent to prison'.

Adding to the prior answers: at least in American usage, it can also mean, more generally, “receive the punishment” (which does not necessarily have to be prison).
