Feel like -> informality. Is the thing below correct? ============================ 'Like' can be used as the informal form of 'as if'. If you use that way in an academic writing, yours would be wrong. ( It felt like it could rain soon (X) -> It felt as if it could rain soon (O) ) But as long as you use 'like' as the literal meaning, you can use it in an academic writing. ( It felt like slimy(O) )

It felt like slimy is incorrect. Like is not needed in that sentence. It would be it felt slimy. Otherwise, you are basically right. Like is usually OK, but as if is a bit more formal, so more appropriate in an academic text.
