What's difference between "as" and "according"? When I speak about time, procedure, what's the best word?

“According” is more like “based on”, so you are saying something according to (or based on) XYZ. “As” is different, you use “as” when you are talking about a process, for example “As we set down to eat, he began talking. “. I hope it helps, :)
