I would say your first sentence is the better option. It sounds more natural.
It is a bit unnatural to see the clause "to refresh herself" at the end of the second sentence. Instead I would suggest "To refresh herself, she played a computer game to let off some steam," or "She was able to let off some steam, to refresh herself, by playing a computer game."
