Why the occasional numeric discrepancy on OP comments? This isn't really about learning any language, though iTalki imposes that choice here. I just thought it's more appropriate here than under discussions. The various discussion posts show the number of views as well as the number of comments received on the OP in the main discussions screen. What I've noticed is that on a fair number of them (though not all), the actual number of comments is one less than what is shown on the main screen. Does anyone know why?

Yes. This is a question that does have an answer. Have you seen the film Sixth Sense? Well, italki is a bit like that. There are the visible members...and the invisible ones. Ghosts. Italki is very keen on 'shadow banning', a cruel and unusual punishment where you are sent to purgatory without your realising it. For some arbitrary reason (and often no reason at all), italki will make your account invisible. You carry on posting, but nobody can see anything that you post: your activities appear on the device where you are logged in, but nobody else can see you. The only loophole is that the tally on the menu page does not pick up on this: if three 'live' members and one 'ghost' post on a thread, the page where the posts are will say 3, but the menu will say 4. That's a sign that there's been some shadow banning. It's happened to all of us from time to time. There was a bizarre period last spring, known to us oldtimers as 'The April Purge', when nearly everybody was banned. Welcome to the weird world of italki.
