“Yes, I am.” (Not “Yes, l’m) Is your brother a third year student in college? Is your brother in his third year at college? (Could also use “of” instead of “at”)

Here's another way of asking: A: Hello, Jim. Are you taking any classes this year? Which ones? B: Yes, I'm taking Math, Geoscience and Astronomy. "Taking", not "talking" :)
