I feel like it's wrong. If it isn't wrong, what could be replaced prospective with. I don't think prospective goes well with the sentence. Jason called the wedding off because he wasn't in love with his prospective fiancé any more.

(Note: Based on French grammar, we write “fiancée” with an extra final E if the person is female. If Jason is gay, then he would have a “fiancé” with just one E. Or if you just don’t like French grammar.) The word “prospective” should be eliminated, because we’re talking about his actual fiancée at the time. You could replace the whole expression with “bride-to-be”, I suppose.
