more of an appreciation of a direct relation to Does "more of an appreciation of a direct relation to visceral materials" mean "the direct usage and representation of the internal parts of body in artworks"? "more of an appreciation of a direct relation to" sounds weird to me. I interpret "visceral materials" as strongly emotional material, thus the work was figurative, and emotionally raw. I agree it is an awkward wording. It should say "an appreciation for the direct relation to visceral materials." Still very heady words.
