Are these sentences OK? It's a mistake that anyone could make. It'd be a mistake if I say that I did it. At first, that's what I thought too. I know how you take care of him. (at present) I knew how you took care of him. (in the past)

"It'd be a mistake if i SAID that i did it" I believe "Say" should be in the past tense, or am i going crazy? :O "If" is a conditional, so the next sentence must be in the past tense.
