In respect of This is what I put down years ago: I am writing in reference to our recent purchase./ I am writing with regard to our recent purchase./ I am writing regarding/concerning our recent purchase. (not: in respect of !!) Now I'm wondering, though: Why not "in respect of"? Thank you!!!

Yes, it's hard to see a reason. I don't know why not! Although "with respect to" would sound perfectly natural too.
