In western democracy the people have more power than in an autocratic system. Western democracy means rule by the people: a certain form, which includes a parliament, elections, universal suffrage, and more than one party.

THERE ARE MORE THAN REPRESENTATIV DEMOCRACY AND IN FACT THEY ARE DIFFERENT, OLD GREECE BACKGORUND, ROMAN IN LAW, BRITISH LIBERAL THOUGHT, FRENCH REVOLUTION AND MARXISM ARE BASIC TO GET IT.

Democracy is a political government either carried out by the people, or the power to govern is granted to elected representatives. In the U.S. we are mainly governed by elected representatives. So we basically vote for someone and they represent what we believe in.
