Hi Cherish Here's some notes on the meanings. Perhaps someone else can help with the grammar. 1 It has been 4 years since I smoked. ‘I have not smoked for 4 years’, or ‘I smoked 4 years ago, but not since then’. 2 All his friends did not turn up. In English, this sounds dreadful. I suggest ‘Not all of his friends turned up’. ‘not all’ = less than 100%; ‘turned up’ = arrived. So, one or more of his friends did not arrive. 3 People will be long forgetting her. ‘It will take a long time for people to forget her’. 4 He was only too pleased to let them go. ‘He was delighted that they were leaving’. ‘only too pleased’ = very pleased / delighted. ‘let them go’ = allow them to leave.
