It depends on your mother language and the second language you are learning. If you are a Spanish native speaker (for example), learning Portuguese is easier for you than learning Chinese or Japanese.
Also, your individual abilities and skills about learning languages. Some people can learn languages faster than other people in the same class (and from the same mother language).
