The expression "those meetings" with reference to politics - what's the allusion? Could you provide me some examples so I can translate it correctly.

Anybody who claims to be "politically active" must attend meetings of some sort - unless they blog on the internet. Anybody can have political views, but to be "politically active" you must attend some sort of meetings, probably on a regular basis. This is the same no matter where your politics are. If somebody talks about "those meetings" they are talking about the meetings they went to to claim to be politically active - regardless of where they were actually interested in putting their effort into some cause or for some other reason - to meet girls, for example.
