a question about bread I have no problem picturing the following: a piece of bread a chunk of bread a hunk of bread and a loaf of bread. But what if the bread is in one piece and has a elongated shape, like this? http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/g3/l1/make-garlic-bread-800X800.jpg\nWhat would the "unit word" or "qualifying word" be? I hope my question is clear. Thanks :)Denis is right, the link is http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/g3/l1/make-garlic-bread-800X800.jpg I apologize for the confusion.

Hi, This looks like a style we call "Vienna Bread": the size of a full loaf, much thicker than a baguette, but un-sliced. I'd still call it a loaf of bread.

NoAgenda, The link works without the / at the end. http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/g3/l1/make-garlic-bread-800X800.jpg Your picture is also a loaf of bread. It is an Italian loaf. Loaf is the standard unit for bread in English. Long, round, square, flat, French, or Italian, they are all loaves of bread. A long narrow loaf of French style bread is often referred to as a baguette, or sometimes simply as French bread, but not every long loaf of French bread can be considered a baguette. Real French baguettes are baked in special ovens according to French traditions. It is almost impossible to find a real baguette outside of France as any bread connoisseur knows.

Hello, The page is not found as mentioned above. A baguette is a basic type of yeast bread that originated in France. The name of this traditional French bread translates to "little rod," which describes the long, thin shape that is characteristic of the loaf. So it might be a baguette according to the shape you described, although the specific ingredients might give it another name then. If you are able to post another link showing it, we might be able to help you :)
