Should celebrities of movies and sports get paid so much?

I think if people want to spend their private money to pay them, there is no problem. The celebrities are just selling themselves and their talents, just a like businessperson sells his or her products. The goat farmer sells his goat cheese; Lady Gaga sells whatever that is that she does. More people want to see Lady Gaga than eat tasty goat cheese, so she'll make more money. (Personally I'll buy the cheese.)

Do you pay lady Gaga to look at her on telescreen? I think you don't. But you have to watch her singing (personally, she's alright, but she's also part of the system). They are not selling themselves, they are mass culture, and mass culture is propaganda. They make people believe that they have to like them. This is NOT a fair market - this is kinda network marketing. So they got more than they deserve. This is law. But is it so bad? This is another question.

no, they are not worthy of getting so much of the taxpayers' money

Considering the stress from paparazzi, the never-ending working hours, the sacrifices they made in their personal lives, the hard work they put into what they do and the painful surgeries they went through to satisfy us, I give them a "should".
